Department of Advanced Engineering:Special Entrance Examinations for Overseas students

Admission Policy

 On the basis of the Japan-China-Korea Interuniversity Cooperative Project of Fostering Water Environment Leading Engineers, overseas students, mainly from China and Korea will be accepted into the Civil and Environmental Engineering Program and Chemistry and Materials Engineering Program, which are the two courses of the University’s Graduate School of Engineering, Master’s Degree, Department of Advanced Engineering. Within these two courses, the following two programs which implement the special curriculum based on the assumed project have been established: “Water Environment Conservation Program” and the “Water Disposal and Use Program.” The former program should mainly provide technologies that can be used in environmental assessment, water environment monitoring, and water environment restoration. In the latter program, the goal is to develop technologies that should be used for drainage treatment and water purification using polymer materials, desalination of seawater using membrane technology, and mercury and arsenic microanalysis. These special programs are composed of a Water Environment Specialization Foundation Course taught in English (Mandatory), a Problem-Based Learning Course (PBL Course), and a long-term internship through close cooperation with domestic corporations, and are designed to provide a high quality practical education. In addition, overseas students who complete this program will be strongly supported in seeking employment at Japanese companies.
 Overseas students who understand the aforementioned principles, educational goals, and the content of education, and also have a strong interest in eradicating the various water environment problems of East Asia through the use of water environment technologies, which are Japan’s forte, will be accepted into the program. For this purpose, special entrance examinations will be conducted for applicants based on the recommendation of the presidents of the specified partner institutions (five Chinese Universities and six Korean Universities). In addition, a candidate must have secured outstanding academic achievements from an affiliated department or graduate department. (However, Japanese citizens shall not be considered for this program).

Education Goal of Human Resources Development (Diploma Policy)

 Our aim is to foster highly specialized leading engineers with outstanding practical ability, and having an accurate grasp of the situation in Asia, to eradicate these problems. In order to secure safe drinking water and solve the serious problems of water quality in rivers and coastal areas and sedimentary contamination in China and Korea, which comprise the core countries in the "East Asia Community," the student will learn about Japan's various technologies related to water environment.

(1) Water Environment Conservation Program
To develop human resources that have the expertise to create a safe and sustainable water environment and practical research ability to investigate real-world problems, who can contribute to water environment conservation in Asia.

(2) Water Treatment and Water Use Program
To develop human resources that have the expertise in chemistry, material sciences, and the practical research ability to investigate real-world problems, who can contribute to the development of scientific technology related to water disposal and use in Asia.

Purpose of Education and Research Programs (Curriculum Policy)

 Our aim is at providing with an educational program for fostering highly specialized leading engineers who are able to respond to the needs of water environment conservation and the disposal and use of water in Asian countries such as China and Korea. The curriculum assists students in gaining in-depth expertise and broad interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as in learning practical abilities, presentation skills, and Japanese business culture.

(1) Water Environment Conservation Program
To assist students in acquiring a broad expertise of water environment conservation and their sustainable use, as well as Japanese and Asian language and culture. Based on this foundation, we aim to develop their ability and enable their active participation in various interdisciplinary fields.

(2) Water Treatment and Water Use Program
To assist students in acquiring knowledge of natural sciences and expertise in material sciences, as well as in Japanese and Asian languages and cultures. Based on this foundation, we aim to develop and enable their active participation in interdisciplinary fields related to disposal and water use.
