  • Expectations for the project: I feel honored to be able to join this project. Water resource shortages and water environment pollution are global problems. I would expect the students who participate in this project to contribute to resolving water environmental issues as highly-skilled professionals with excellent practical skills. In addition, I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere wish for Nagasaki University to become a center of water environment research.

  • Area of research regarding water:predictive method of flowage of closed water area and eutrophic water pollution, circulation analysis of nutrient salts by ecosystem model, development of assessment tool for environmental restoration technology
  • Expectations for the project: Faced with a pressing need for safety and reservation measures against water resources in Asian countries, we do hope this project fosters highly-skilled engineers who will play an active role in the front of environmental management to help with conservation and sustainable use of water resources.

  • Area of research regarding water: research and development of biological treatment systems for toxic cyanobacteria in eutrophic waters. Study on ecosystem engineering for improvement of water environment, research and development of low cost and energy saving water treatment systems for developing countries and disaster areas.
  • Expectations for the project: Water environmental problems are the most acute of all global environmental problems. Therefore the role of water environmental engineers has become more important. The aim of this educational program is to promote the talent of students in Japan, China, and South Korea who can be active in not only Asia but also the world as excellent water environment engineers. I am expecting that this educational program will be useful for the solution of the water environmental issue in the world.

  • Area of research regarding water: Activated carbon filtration with ozone, flooding with the global warming, urban hydrology
  • Expectations for the project: I have engaged in the countermeasures for urban flooding and activated carbon filtration with ozone for drinking water as practical works in the government. Therefore, I expect I will contribute to water problems in Asia with my research and development experiences at the governments, universities and institutes. Especially my experience of JICA will become useful for Asian students.

  • Area of research regarding water: dynamic behavior and water quality in closed water areas, investigation and modeling of transportation patterns of minute amounts of residual mercury in coastal areas, study on prediction of material transport (for example, water quality and nutrients, etc.) and preservation methods in water basins by means of widely spatial information.
  • Expectations for the project: Japan experienced numerous pollution problems in its rivers, seas, and so on during its high growth period and in the process of solving these problems accumulated knowledge and advanced skills to tackle these issues. I want to help foster professionals who can put these techniques to practical use in Asian countries to tackle water shortage problems such as lack of water resources and other water environment issues so that these individuals can contribute to the sustainable development of the region and pass on a healthy water environment to future generations.

  • Expectations for the project: We want to utilize the trust built through our history of intercollegiate exchange with geographically close China and South Korea to establish an education hub to foster highly-skilled professionals with practical skills who will apply what they will have learned for the conservation of the water environment and sustainable water use in East Asia

  • Expectations for the project: Higher technologies on water engineering are needed more than ever as how to respond to problems caused by water stress have become global issues. I really hope that this international masters program will foster highly-skilled professionals whose expertise will be put to use in East Asia, as well as around the globe.

  • Expectations for the project: I have experienced collaborative researches with students and researchers from Korea and China, and I am very excited to have an opportunity to join this project at Nagasaki University. I hope young students of this project will contribute to solve water-related regional common issues.

  • Area of research regarding water: Evaluation of coupled mechanical-hydraulic behavior of fractured rock masses, research of characteristics of seepage flow in soil
  • Expectations for the project: People in East Asia are seeking a way to coexist with nature while balancing economic growth and environmental conservation. Through fostering young engineers from China and South Korea, this project is expected to become the center of expanding the technology of Japan as to water environment conservation and sustainable water use, as well as of solving the common problems regarding sustainable development of Asian countries.

  • Expectations for the project: Through this project, I expect students from the Asia region to acquire advanced and specialized knowledge and skills of water environment conservation and improvement, and eventually grow to be leaders who can utilize these knowledge and skills to contribute not only to their home countries but also to the Asia region and the whole globe.

  • Expectations for the project: Water purification is not only important to improve public health in developing nations right now, but also to secure access to safe water on a global scale 100 years from now. The ultimate goal of the project is to create safe societies by fostering capable water managers with advanced skills who can contribute on a global scale.

I expect our students to become engineers who can work on water environment problems comprehensively not only in Asia but all around the world.
